Sloppy Joes
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 ½ lbs ground beef (lean)
- ½ onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 green pepper, diced
- 1 cup water
- ¾ cup ketchup (catsup)
- 3 oz Spice Horizon balsamic vinegar
- ¼ tsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp Spice Horizon dry mustard powder
- 1 ½ tsp fine ground Himalayan sea salt
- ½ tsp fresh ground Spice Horizon black peppercorns
- 1 cup water
- ½ tsp Spice Horizon cayenne pepper
DIRECTIONS:
- Brown ground beef and onion in a large iron skillet. Turn heat to medium and cook and stir until the mixture forms small crumbles (about 10 minutes). Drain off excess fat.
- Stir in minced garlic, diced green pepper and cook another 2-3 minutes. Add 1 cup of water and stir. Scrape the bottom of the pan to bring up any flavorful bits from the bottom.
- Mix in ketchup (catsup), Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, dry mustard, balsamic vinegar, and black pepper. Add 1 cup more water and return to a simmer. Reduce the heat to low, stirring occasionally until the liquid evaporates and thick (about 30 minutes)
SUGGESTED TOPPINGS:
- sliced pickles
- BBQ sauce
- Additional ground pepper and salt to taste.
