Sumac berries grow on a bush and turn bright red in the fall. Sumac is a staple in Middle Eastern cuisines.  Sumac adds a sour taste to recipes and is used in Middle Eastern cooking much like lemon or vinegar is used by Western cooks.

NOTE: This ground sumac should NOT be confused with its similar looking, but poisonous North American relative.
